Three Legged Pig Design’s Retail Exhibit Illuminates and Inspires

Three Legged Pig Design at American Craft Counsel Trade ShowAre you seeking inspiration for a new LED lighting installation for your retail space or trade show booth? The American Craft Council (ACC) recently hosted their annual West Coast trade show in San Francisco, CA. The show featured eight unique booths in a dedicated  “Make Room” section of the Fort Mason Center. Here’s a little bit of background on the “Make Room” concept: The ACC handpicked and challenged eight of the top design firms from around the Bay Area to choose a featured craft and create an inviting retail environment to attract trade show attendees. The eight “Make Room” settings were located at the center of the trade show last month to offer design inspiration to attendees and the other trade show vendors.

We were thrilled to hear that our friends at Three Legged Pig Design were one of the eight firms selected to create a featured room setting for the show! Elemental LED has worked with San Francisco-based Three Legged Pig Design over the past few years to implement innovative and inspiring LED lighting effects to compliment their unique architectural designs. At Elemental LED, we enjoy collaborating with businesses that are pushing the limit in creative LED installations and impactful lighting design, so we offered to provide the LED lighting needed for Three Legged Pig’s room setting.

We recently caught up with Principle, Mimi Chen, to congratulate her and ask her about her experience at the show last month. She told us she was honored when Three Legged Pig Design was invited: “The ACC show was comprised of a group of curated artists that have mastered and elevated their craft.  The Make Room spaces were a fun and informative way for attendees to view a piece of craft in a particular setting.”

We asked her to describe her “Winter Afternoon Tea” room setting, which highlighted her selected craft, a tea set made of turned wood by Michael Scarborough:

“Our team built a custom and intimate moon-gate shaped pavilion. The space was designed with different elements including a rug of soft stones, layers of textures, and influences from tradition reinterpreted. Approaching the design like a retail space, we highlighted the tea set and placed it prominently on a custom designed table, nestled in a ring of rice, projecting out, and inviting viewers to stop and take a closer look. The refreshing uses of the unconventional materials combined to surprise, delight and encourage interaction with attendees of the show.”

In order to create the perfect accent and ambient lighting effects, Mimi opted to add SPOTMOD LED Module Lights to illuminate various areas of the room setting:

“We used the 15-degree SPOTMOD LED Module Light to focus a narrow beam of light on the selected tea set in order to highlight it. The compact size and weight of the SPOTMOD light made it easy to tuck into any space.  With high ceilings in this exhibition space and no direct way to mount specific overhead lighting, we approached lighting from the floor plane instead. The 45-degree SPOTMODs were used for up-lighting the sculptural pavilion, casting interesting shadows to selectively shine on the rocks and vegetation of the garden. The effect was a dramatic but quiet mood with lighting to help guide the eye to the various elements of the design.“

The SPOTMOD LED Module Light series is just one of many options at Elemental LED frequently utilized by retail display fabricators. Another popular option for retail and trade show booth lighting is SPECIFORM Fabricator Strip. This LED strip light is durable and easy to connect, disconnect and reconnect for trade show shelves and partitions that need to be broken down and re-assembled. SPOTMOD LED Module Lights and SPECIFORM Fabricator Strip are two examples of Elemental LED’s low profile LED lighting options that can be discreetly tucked away to illuminate any area.

All of us at Elemental LED would like to congratulate Three Legged Pig Design for their selection by the ACC to be part of the Make Room at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center last month. We are looking forward to seeing what they come up with next!
