Interactive LED Heart Sculpture Spreads V-Day Love in NYC

Does your significant other make your heart skip a beat? This Valentine’s Day you can prove it at “Big <3 NYC,” an interactive, heart-shaped LED sculpture installed in Times Square that glows brightly in response to loving touch. 400 LED-lit acrylic tubes surround a suspended crimson heart, which is made of 90 LED light bars, creating a sculpture that is 10 feet tall and 8 feet across. A sensor located near the sculpture responds when onlookers touch it. The waterproof LED lights are programmed to glow more brightly in proportion to the amount of conductive energy they receive. Holding hands or kissing increases the flow of energy and results in a brighter burning heart.

A Valentines Day celebration initiated by the Times Square Alliance, NYC-based architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) built the installation in collaboration with Flat Cut. To top it off,the Times Square Alliance is proving their big-heartedness by making a donation to the Hope and Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund every time a participant takes a photo in front of the sculpture and shares it on Facebook. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate love, and to spread that love in a meaningful way to those who need it most. Talk about heart warming!
