South by Southwest, one of the country’s biggest music, arts and technology festivals, wrapped up a few weeks ago in Austin, Texas and we’re proud to say that Elemental LED’s Lead Engineer Joe Martin was a part of it. Not only did Joe help to construct one of the most talked-about installations at the festival, but he also employed some of Diode LED's LED under cabinet lighting products to get the job done. The project at hand was the giant Doritos “Jacked” stage, which functioned not only as a performance space for several big-name acts (Snoop Dogg, anyone?), but also as a six-story vending machine, dispensing real bags of larger-than-life Doritos Jacked chips to lucky festival goers.
To feed the machine, audience members could search out oversized quarters hidden around town, or win them by promoting Jacked chips on Facebook. After sliding a giant quarter into the slot, participants were rewarded with a 9-foot bag of chips, along with other prizes.
Joe’s task for this project was to create the oversized letter and number paneling on the front of the machine. He used Diode LED's cool white BLAZE™ 12V LED Tape Light and 12V adapters to achieve bright, easy-to-read displays. Well done, Joe!
