Last year's model of the Reign 12V Dimmer Switch is on sale at a discount price while supplies last. Click here for the new model. This older model differs from the newer version only in the voltage capability: this older model is compatible with 12V DC power only, while the newer model is 12V-24V DC. This clearance model is only available in a white finish, while the newer model has a choice of three finishes. Reign 12V LED Dimmer Switches were engineered by and are manufactured for Elemental as 12V dimmer switches that fit right into a standard wall light switch box. These 12V PWM dimmers are connected between the 12V power supply and 12V LED fixture, and will dim any of our dimmable LED lights. Reign switches make it easy to create a seamless LED installation using your existing switch boxes, and they are ETL Certified. These switches are warrantied but non-returnable.

Only one style of our clearance Reign dimmer switches is left: the Touch Dimmer, which features a touch-sensitive aluminum pad and offers a smooth 100-0% dimming range, with no flickering, humming, or jumping.

Reign dimmers are 12V dimmer switches that operate only with our standard 12V DC hard-wired drivers and plug-in adapters. They cannot be used with our series of 12V Dimmable Drivers (which are compatible with 120V AC magnetic low voltage dimmers), nor will they work with high voltage AC power. The maximum load for the 12V LED dimmer switch is 60 Watts, so they're perfect for any of our standard drivers or adapters that are rated 60 Watts or less.

  4. Reign 12V LED Dimmer toggle with slide

Reviewed on May 16, 2012 by Nick Brkovich

The switch works great. The dimmer design looks like a 120V and is able to be mounted in a standard wall box which is what I wanted. I already had a 120 to12V transformer from that wasnt an elementalLED brand and was a little nerveous it would not work but it does. The dimming ranges from 100% to 0% we keep it around 50%. Great product.

This is my 6th kitchen under cabinet lighting instilation with this product. All my customers love the dimmable lights with full range off to bright. No flickering. I would like to see more options in switch styling. Some customers are looking for toggle with slide dimmer.

Decided to follow the suggestion to dim on the load side, no flicker, hum or buzz. Nice control at low light levels. Nicer price than 3rd party line dimmers.

used the Reign dimmer switch which needs 12 V wiring from transformer to wall switch but works smoothly without any flicker. Elemental sales/customer service is excellent. They patiently answered all my questions, and were very helpful configuring my order. The lights were shipped out the next day, and arrived promptly. Will look for more LED options here for my home!

  1. Are your 12V dimmer switches available in black?

From Guest at 10/10/10 7:27 PM
Currently we only offer them in a white plastic housing.
  2. I want to be able to have my LEDs be motion-activated as well as dimmable. I've seen combo switches for occupancy/dimming for halogen/incandescent applications. Do you have anything like that for the bright strip LED product you sell?

    Thanks!

    Monica

From Guest at 12/12/10 4:02 PM
We would suggest, instead of a Reign dimmer, using our Inline Dimmer Switch and our Inline Motion Sensor, both of which connect directly to each other and to a 12V Adapter. To connect the Brighter Strip Light to a DC accessory, just use our Flexible LED Strip Light DC Plug Connector.
  3. I am looking to hard wire 3 separate 8 ft strips of dimmable LEDs in my basement. I would like all 3 strips to be dimmable separately and would therefore look to have a 3-gang box to house all of the dimmer switches. If I am reading your information correctly there are two ways that I can go: 1. buy 3 dimmable hard wired drivers and hook up to 3rd party magnetic dimmable wall switches or 2. buy 3 regular drivers and hook up to these Reign dimmers. Is this correct? Also, do you sell a 3-gang wall plate, or will these Reign dimmers of a standard size to fit normal wall plates? Thank you for your help!

From Guest at 2/16/11 11:36 AM
Yes, your understanding is correct. We don't sell 3-gang switchplates, but Reign Dimmers fit into the standard size for wall dimmers. Whichever way you choose, though, you'll only need one 12V Driver. You can bundle the three pairs of input wires on the 3 switches with the DC output wires on the driver. Just ensure that the wires are bundled according to their polarity.
  4. I really like the in-wall dimmer idea. But where do you typically mount the power unit? It seems that you need a shelf and some interface plate to get the wires in and out of the wall from the switch. Please clarify where the power supply should be placed.

Also, what gauge wiring for 10' of LEDs?

    Thanks,

    Ron T

From Guest at 4/20/11 9:48 PM
Hello Ron. Our 12V Hard-Wired Drivers are usually mounted either behind the wall (which means opening it up) or out of sight, whether inside or on top of or underneath a cabinet, for example. (In that case you just need to get the wires to and from the Reign switch. Our 20W-60W drivers are fairly compact and can usually be hidden easily.)

Another option the some customers choose is to use a switch box that mounts on the wall and flat wire that runs to and from the LED light, so that you never have to open the wall up. This setup would work well if you can hide the driver.

18 AWG wire is sufficient for installations where the lights are within 30-40 feet of the power source. We sell it as 18/2 Lamp Wire on the Accessories page.

And please send us pictures or diagrams of your final installation, as we like to see how customers decide to install the Reign!
  5. Hello! Are all LED Dimmers create equal? Meaning the Company who makes the High Hat Can do I have to use there dimmer switch or are other LED dimmers compatible with other High Hat Cans?

From Guest at 8/2/11 10:32 AM
Dimmers for use with LED lights actually vary in important ways and it's vital to use the proper dimmer. The Reign 12V Dimmer is an electronic low voltage (ELV) switch for use with 12V DC lights and a 12V power source/transformer. To find out if it will work with the High Hat can lights, you should ask the seller or manufacturer.
  6. Are these dimmers single pole or 3 way? Meaning the light fixture I need the dimmer for has two switches and I want to be able to turn light on and off with both switches.

From Roz at 11/9/12 4:03 PM
These Dimmer Switches are Single Pole, and so may only function independently. We do not currently have a 3 Way Reign Dimmer Switch available, but you may use our 12v Dimmable Drivers with 3 Way Dimmer Switches available on the market. (Like the Lutron Maestro Wireless)

    Thank you
