We went down to Old Oakland this afternoon to check outpopuphood’s grand opening. It was a great event and will only get better as the sun goes down. The retailers who now occupy the vacant storefronts had been working hard over the last 48hrs to get their shops set up and open for business.
Today you could see all their hard work paid off as shoppers filledeach store with life and business. We spoke to one woman who was buying a hat for her niece at Marion and Roses and Piper and John’s General Store was filled with folks looking at many antique knick knacks.Tents were set up all along the streets outside serving food, and beer and wine was getting ready to flow into the evening.
People walked around with the popuphood passport which allows folks to go to each shop, get a stamp, and redeem discounts at local participating retailers. Including 2 for 1 mahrgaritas at Tamarindo. As we went back to the office, we saw the REACH logo up on the popuphood billboard over on 40th St. Once the LEDs are installed in all the storefronts the window displays will really pop.
