Dallas, Texas-based Glass Creations Unlimited used the neutral white version of our High Density Strip lighting to edge light the glass sign and logo they created for the Ahmanson Translational Imaging Division at the UCLA Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology. The glass itself provides the blue color that really makes it stand out. The project was designed by Jason Blake, the president of Glass Creations.

The glass panels featuring the center’s name are 87 inches long, with the letters made of flat cut metal with the glass around each letter etched to catch the edge-lighting from the LED strip lights, which are housed in the aluminum bar below the name “Ahmonson.” The partial circles in the design are also made of flat cut metal, with the strips mounted behind facing wall to provide back-lighting.

Mandy Blake of Glass Creations described why they decided to go with LED lighting for this project: “We used the strip lighting for a handful of reasons. The most important ones were: First, to keep the lighting on the back side of the swoosh cutouts very minimal and keep people from seeing the lighting fixtures as they were walking down the hallway. Second, we also needed low profile lighting in the aluminum bar since we had to get two runs of lights in the same bar: one run for the top glass and the other run for the bottom glass. We couldn’t increase the size of the aluminum bar because of weight concerns and most importantly the aesthetics. Lastly, there was a large amount of lighting with this display and we had to keep the amperage and wattage as low as possible. Lighting we had used in the past pulled quite a bit of both and would create issues when determining the best driver and number of drivers to use.”
