Dutch artist Tamar Frank is giving downtown Vancouver a bright spot on the horizon. Her strip LED RGB display tower was revealed on Wednesday as an architectural lighting installation decorating a condominium building at West Pender Place in Coal Harbor. Consisting of 600 rows of color-changing LED lights, the display is meant to represent the shape of Vancouver’s unique peninsula, its mountains and the changing colors of the seasons. The tower is 120 meters tall, and contains 40 different presets that gradually change over the course of 15-30 minutes, displaying abstract patterns, images derived from nature and colorful, shifting shapes. In an interview with the Vancouver Sun, the artist said her piece has been very well received by the public, and that it is one of the only colorful LED outdoor fixture displays in the area. The project cost $400,000 and took two years to design and install, but in our opinion, was worth every bit.
Thanks to the Vancouver Sun for the image.
