Two-Strand Lamp Wire is a heavy-duty lamp cord that is compatible with all of Elemental's LED lighting products and is sold by the foot. It is used primarily as a way of extending the reach of our LED strip lighting, under cabinet LED lights, LED light bars, and more. Whether you need to extend the distance between your LED fixture and its power source, or to put two or more light bars or pucks far from each other, or to power multiple but different LED light fixtures from the same source, this LED Lamp Wire is the solution. And it even works with non-LED lighting! It's available in different gauges of wire, from a heavier 16 AWG to a lighter-weight 20 AWG.

Since the dawn of electricity, 18 AWG / 2 strand lamp wire has been the industry standard for safe and reliable power connection. Beginning with the incandescent bulb, through fluorescent, quartz, halogen, and compact fluorescent lighting, and now into the age of LEDs, this lamp cord is the only wire you need. Made of pure copper and insulated in heavy rubber, two strand cable is ready for your custom LED lighting project.

LED Lamp Wire is sold by the foot, or by the 250 foot spool, and it's competitively-priced compared to the equivalent wire sold at big-box chain stores. Elemental may be leading the way in the LED revolution that is sweeping the nation, but we also know that sometimes you just have to stick with the basics. And lamp wire is just that: that old reliable wire from your grandfather's day.

  1. Is it possible to solder this 18/2 wire directly to the LED strips and use it as a flexible connector between strips? This would be more cost effective than purchasing various connectors. Does the fact that the wire is stranded
and thick make soldering less effective or desirable?

From Guest at 12/10/10 10:07 AM
The 18/2 Wire is perfect for this, and will work well to make an extended flexible connection. The only thing you need to make sure of is that it's a clean solder. Because the solder points on the strip are small and fairly close together, you want to make sure the two beads of solder for positive and negative aren't touching each other, as this can damage the strip.

If you just need a short bending joint (about 3 inches) between sections, keep in mind that we do sell the Strip-to-Strip Bending Extension, shown on the Strip Light Connectors page.
  2. Can you run the 18/2 lamp wire safely behind wall board to hide the wires in a hard wire installation?

From Guest at 4/15/11 3:08 PM
Yes, and just be sure to insulate the wire's connections with crimp connectors or wire nuts.
  3. how to connect connectors to 18/2 lamp wire

From nick at 8/6/12 8:04 AM
I am unsure as to which connector you are referring to. Perhaps you are asking about the DC wire plug.
With that plug, you would put one wire into each of the open slots of the wire plug and use a small screwdriver to secure the wires in the wire plug
  4. does this lamp cord have a CL (concealed location) rating on it so it can be run inside of walls ect... where I live the electrical inspectors will not allow it if it does not have this rating? normal lamp cord does not.

From CB at 10/28/12 9:58 AM
It does not have a CL rating. It is standard lamp cord and if you plan to run inside of walls I would recommend following local electrical code. It is best to use 14 gauge romex wiring in most areas.
