Elemental LED Raises the Bar by Donating LED Light Bars to Laguna de Perlas, Nicaragua

At Elemental LED, we don’t just focus on improving the design of our LED light bars; philanthropy just so happens to be a key element of our philosophy, too. We love lighting and we also love the warm fuzzy feeling that comes from providing people in need with economical lighting solutions. So naturally, when on a recent kite surfing trip in Nicaragua, Elemental founder and CEO Max Darling was excited to find out how he could help the villages he visited there - by providing some LED light bars. After a bit of research, Max contacted the founder of the Blue Energy Group, a nonprofit organization that provides sustainable energy solutions to marginalized communities in Central America, and together, the two companies brought some LED TLC to Nicaragua.
We’re proud to announce that we’ve donated ten 20-inch Waterproof LED light bars to Laguna de Perlas, a small village in Nicaragua with a population of about 11,000. Most villagers in Laguna de Perlas live “off-grid,” meaning they rarely use electricity for their daily activities. But as modern technology becomes more prevalent in the area (electricity is now available from 9AM to 1AM), the need for lighting options is growing. And in a community like Laguna de Perlas, where a typical energy bill might eat up resources that could be very well spent on other important provisions, the availability of efficient, economic lighting is crucial.
Luckily, our waterproof LED light bars just so happen to be one of our most efficient lighting solutions—they only use three watts of energy and cost as little as $8 per year to power! The lights are being put to good use in Laguna de Perlas, ecologically illuminating nighttime activities like cooking and socializing. It feels good to know that our LED light bars are giving villagers access to more light for less money, and will allow them to more easily afford other necessities, thereby improving their quality of life.
The fact that our 20-inch bars function in and ship so well to Nicaragua is a testament to how durable they are—the lights were unscathed by the shipping process, and they’re waterproof, a key requirement in the humid, tropical climate of the Nicaraguan coast. And of course the LED light bars come with mounting hardware and easily chain together to provide as much light as needed, though with their 120-degree angle of flooded viewing, a little light goes a long way. Just ask Laguna de Perlas!
