Dan’s Upcycled Driver Lantern with Amber LED Strip Light

Dan Nelson, our Creative Engineer, upcycled a faulty 12V Indoor Driver into a sleek lantern. The polished aluminum housing with its several ventilation slits made for an easy DIY project.

All Dan used was:

a housing (anything metal with cool hole patterns works)

2 x 6 inch pieces of amber High Density Flexible LED Strip Light
2 x Flexible LED Strip Light Splice Connectors
2 x 6 AWG (wire gauge) heat shrink sleeves
6 Watt 12V DC plug-in Adapter

Dan tried out the blue and green strip light but settled with the color amber for its warm glow. You can also go all out using color-changing RGB strip light and the Reignbow LED Color Selector, which lets you choose one color at a time from the RGB strip.

Have a bit of e-waste you’d like to illuminate? Follow Dan’s Instructables for how he created his ambient light.
