Soon, the United States will be “walking the walk” of energy efficient lighting worldwide—at least at its embassies. The Alliance to Save Energy and The League of Green Embassies are spearheading a program that will support renovations in US Embassies to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint. Lighting systems are a vital component of the program, and Cree, a leader in LED lighting technology, has already followed suit by installed some LED wall lights in Madrid and Helsinki (shown above…brr!). The company pledges to continue to provide indoor and outdoor LED lighting for US Embassies worldwide in 2012. The project aims to provide efficient, low-maintenance, high-quality lighting to walkways, parking lots and roadways surrounding the embassies, to increases security for each lighted area and to deliver energy savings of 45-76 percent to each modified establishment. “The goal of the League of Green Embassies is to make each participating embassy as energy efficient as possible and to use these embassies as platforms for showcasing US energy innovation technologies and products,” said Bruce J. Oreck, US Ambassador to Finland. Greg Merritt, vice president corporate marketing at Cree, said, “Embassies are a great vehicle to showcase US innovation and influence global commercial and industrial organizations to take action, consume less energy and advance energy efficiency.” Here, here!
