I’ve blogged about the possibility of WIFI enabled LED light bulbs before, but I have had yet to see one available and easy to use for the masses…until now. Thanks to the fundraising phenomenon Kickstarter, the new LIFX light bulb is on the fast track to becoming a reality. With over 8,000 donors and more than $1.25 million raised so far, this RGB LED bulb controllable by your smart phone could soon be gracing your home. “LIFX gives you unprecedented control of your lights, reduces your energy costs, lasts up to 25 years and delivers an amazing range of experiences we think you’ll love,” the Kickstarter page says.
The most innovative part about this product is how simple it is to set up and the diverse range of functions it performs. It screws into a typical E27 base, and using the app on your smart phone you can control multiple bulbs in multiple rooms and you can match the color of the bulb to the color of your décor. Added features include automatic brightness adjustment of this dimmable LED light, so you can wake up as if by sunrise, to the slow increase of light. You can also place your LED lighting on a timer so that it shuts on and off, even when you’re out of the house. It’d be great if they came up with an under cabinet lighting version of this fixture, so you could enjoy the same functions in your kitchen!
The pledge drive for this product will be over in less than 2 months, which means this product will be available right before the holidays…Christmas shopping idea, anyone?
