Elemental LED recently was approved to enter into the California Green Business Program. The program is only available for certain types of businesses so if you want to join you should check with their staff to see if your business will qualify. Elemental LED falls under the category of a retailer, even though there are many different aspects of our company. Now that we have entered into the program, it is our job to review the green checklist that the program provided. If we want to be a Bay Area Green Business, we have to complete the checklist, submit it to the program administrators, have them conduct an audit of our facility to make sure all the items on the checklist have been implemented, then we get to rejoice as a green business. It’s not that difficult since a lot of the items are simple like recycling, turning lights off and using recycled paper. If you have a business that is green minded already, as we do, then I am sure you are already implementing some of the measures on the checklist. We are powering through the checklist right now and I am surprised of all the green things we are already doing. However, I was cautioned that replacing the lighting to become more energy efficient and the toilets to conserve more water would be the most costly item on the list. The lights… piece of cake… we are an LED lighting company and all of our lights are already LEDs. The toilets on the other hand are over 20 yrs old in our office. We will have to replace these. Since we are only renters, we’ll have to ask our landlord what he thinks.
I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully we’ll be a green business in no time.
