When I first applied to work at Elemental LED, what especially excited me was the possibility of being surrounded by a bunch of creative geeks. Browsing the site before my interview, I admired their DIY projects like the color-changing Jellyfish Chandelier and an ornate shadow box. When I met the Elemental LED team for the first time, I learned the projects were part of a bi-monthly DIY competition within the company. After I officially joined the team, to my delight, I was put in charge of running the competition! Talking to my co-workers on what they’re working on next and seeing the progression of their projects each month brings me great joy.

This video shows off the fun, competitive and energetic atmosphere on a DIY competition day. We gathered on a Friday afternoon with a full spread of food and drinks, and the competitors each took a turn sharing their projects. It’s like a grownup show-and-tell with lots of LED lights. I’m always amazed and inspired by what everyone makes. In this video you’ll see practical creations like J.B.’s color temperature lamp and creations that are purely for fun like Scott’s Rubik’s cube lantern.
