Makeup manufacturers strive to create products that are light to the touch, but makeup that is light? That’s a new one. Designer Lulin Ding has created the world’s first LED eye shadow. We’ve seen wearable LED lights before, as in clothing or contact lenses, and we’ve even seen LED teeth adornments, but LED makeup is an entirely new concept (and one that still needs some work, if you ask me). The idea is fairly simple: miniature clips attach tiny RGB LED lights to the corner of your eye, while the wires needed to power them subtly run through your eyebrow and around the back of your ear to the battery pack. The LED lights then illuminate your eyelid with colored light. Watching the video, it appears that the wearer can create effects by blinking and making facial expressions. The idea’s got promise, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that right now, it’s hovering somewhere between cutting edge-cool (a la Lady Gaga) and creepy (think: The Clockwork Orange.)
