You may have gathered by now that I’m a big fan of recycled art. So you can only imagine how pleased I am to discover Tal Avitzur, a California artist who builds adorable little robots and sci-fi characters out of scrap metal scrounged from junkyards. His creations range from creepy to cute, and look like they could come straight out of a miniature Tim Burton diorama. Avitzur is especially talented at giving each new bot its own personality—he even names them: Jigsy, Sentry, Primo, etc. One thing that helps bring his pieces to life is the use of LED lights, which he inserts as eyes and glowing hearts. “They all feel like family to me,” he has said of his tiny robot-clan. Along with the figurines, Tal Avitzur also makes RGB LED wall mounts. These would make for an adorable kids’ gift, don’t you think?
