When I heard Bike to Work Day was coming up I wanted to do something special at Elemental HQ because pretty much every day is bike to work day for us. So I put together this video where I asked, “Why do you like to bike to work?”

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to celebrate. Nearby our offices there were a couple energizer stations set up through the East Bay Bicycle Coalition. I hitched a ride on a pedicab* to check out the one hosted by our neighbors Novartis. Music bumping, their booth was stocked with parfaits, granola bars, fruit and water – great ammo to start the day. They were even handing out cute canvas tote bags including a water bottle, sunscreen and bike magazines.

REACH program director, Mike Gutman came up with the idea to throw a pizza party. After all, biking to work affords a bit of indulgence. So we ordered a variety of scrumptious pies from Rotten City Pizza. My favorite was the Bianco Verde with pesto.

Hopefully next year we can host our own energizer station to cheer on all the other bikers. How was your bike to work day? How do you lessen your commute’s carbon footprint? Sound off in the comments.

*Dear keen reader – you’ve caught me! I embarrassingly did not bike to work myself as I did not want to brave the 1 hour and 30+ minute commute alone. After years of living in the Bicycle Capital of the U.S., my bicycle now lays abandoned in my backyard. But hopefully in the near future I’ll be lucky enough to live within a mile from the office like so many of my co-workers. Or document the trek next Bike to Work Day.
