  1. Brighter than I expected!

Reviewed on April 25, 2013 by Granville

Once the light strip was installed, I was very happy with the performance. This strip is much brighter than I expected - a very pleasant, warm hue that really sets off our new kitchen back-splash and provides ample task lighting.

Initially, there was a problem with installation, because the nicely detailed plans were not the ones for the light. After good help from the tech support person, I was able to quickly and easily make the connections. The 3M adhesion performance of the tape was also excellent: no worries about the light strip staying up under the cabinets. I am considering adding a dimmer switch - for times that I want more mood light than task light. Very satisfied.

I am very happy that I am changing everything over to LEDs: better lighting, less heat and fire risk, much greater longevity - and electrical costs at a fraction of other lighting make LEDs one of the greenest options we have. LEDs really save in the long run.

I used the strip light in divider panels for desks that we designed. I liked the compactness of the unit. But it did take a while to figure out the polarity of the wiring in combination with power supply and dimmer. Cutting lighting and using connectors is a little tricky. Good news: once you figure it out, the next installation is a breeze. Love the remote control dimmer.

I used these on our new cabinets. These things worked great no problems with installation. I also put some in the cabinets and have plans for other things I can do with these. Excellent product.
  5. LED strip for a custom wood frame w. etched glass

Overall I was happy with the outcome of the project, however I did have some problems with the quality control of the strips. First, the factory solder job popped off in two places on the strips and this was without a lot of stress, I was very careful with these. Second, the factory male end that was connected to the strip was not working. I had to cut it off and replace it with one of the ends that you have to strip the wires and then use a screw to tighten down on the wires. I did not think the factory end would be bad so I did lose a lot of time figuring out the problem. The last problem I had is that I believe there is a loose wire in the inline on off switch because I have to wiggle it around to make it go on properly. Overall these problems were a pain, but minor and I was able to figure it out and after some soldering and what not I was able to get them to light up.

Used to replace xenon pucks, which were hot, burned out often, and had messy wiring. The strip light is a very neat installation, no messy wiring. The warm color looks good and is plenty bright. Love it.

  1. If I want to use these as under cabinet lights in my home and need to put the lights on two separate walls that are across from each other and not adjacent do I need to have two receptacles and two adapters? I would like them to be on the same switch. Is this possible and can I dim them together? I am an electrician by trade.

From Guest at 2/24/12 10:44 AM
Yes, you can definitely do this. In addition to using the kit's LED Adapter Splice Cable, you can order an the right amount of our 18/2 Lamp Wire by the foot. Then you would connect, in this order, the adapter, the dimmer switch, and then the adapter splice cable (which is 42 inches long), which gives you two bare wires. So you connect one strip section directly to the adapter splice cable, then bundle the 18/2 Wire to the splice cable also, joining the three pairs of wire with wire nuts, and use the 18/2 wire as an extension to the other strip section.
  2. I want to connect two separate banks of cabinets. I will need to use about 25 feet of wire to fish through the wall and basement. Should I use a wire larger than the 18/2 to avoid a voltage drop over this long distance so my lights aren't dimmer at the end of the run?

From Guest at 2/24/12 10:44 AM
18/2 gauge will not experience Voltage Drop until about 50 feet, so running 25 feet of this gauge wire should be just fine.
  3. I would like to install this system using a Lutron "Diva" Electronic Low Voltage dimmer switch(DVELV-300P-CC3) to control the input power to the included 60W power adapter rather than using the included DC dimmer switch. This will provide a more professional finished look. Is the power adapter an electronic transformer? Will Elemental LED endorse this configuration? http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/Spec%20Guide%20Volume%201%20Diva.pdf

From Guest at 2/24/12 10:44 AM
The 60W plug in adapter functions as a Pulse Width Modulation power supply. It will not work with a Lutron Magnetic Low Voltage Diva Switch. You will require a Magnetic Power Supply which is our 60W 12V Dimmable Driver. The other option would be to use one of our 12V Reign Dimmer switches with your 60W plug in adapter. The Reign Dimmers have just went on sale and can be found here on the webpage: http://www.elementalled.com/reign-12v-led-dimmer-switches.html.
  4. My electrician told me to get my own led undercabinet lighting. The cabinet configuration is a simple "L" that runs across one wall with a 30" cabinet, 30" cabinet, 36" cabinet, 12" cabinet then a corner cabinet 24" in each side, turns to the other side with a 12" cabinet stops, then the stove, then a 9" cabinet.

I don't know how these things connect, he didn't give me any instructions. Do any of them come with a power remote?

    Thanks

  5. I want to connect 4 of these together in my garage for lighting. Can I connect them together using the supplied hardware? If not how can I make this work or what other option do you have for me? My garage is 20'X27'

From Rick at 9/28/12 10:14 PM
You cannot run more that approximately 16ft of LED Strip Lights in a series. Doing so would result in what is called voltage drop, which causes your strips to flicker, dim, or not turn on at all. Kits are usually used for small at home or do it yourself projects. They are limited also by the size of the plug in adapter of the kit. For a project of this size, it would be best to build the components individually. If you could please email us the information regarding your project to answers@elementalled.com we can create you a full price quote and offer a list of components to best illuminate your space.
  6. I have a corner cabinet with a face-frame and want to run this light strip on the backside of the frame starting from one side and continuing across the top and down the other side. I will use 13' of the light strip. Is this flexible enough to do this and what do I need? I have an outlet in place in the lower portion of the cabinet. Can you give me detailed instructions as well as a materials list?
Thanks in advance for your help.

From Steph at 11/6/12 10:42 AM
    Greetings Steph,

Please note that our strip light cannot be laid flat and bent at a 90 degree angle. You can purchase our strip to strip bending extensions to accomplish this task.

If you wish to have a quote processed please send the following information to answers@elementalled.com and we can process a quote within 24-48 hours.

Please provide us with the following information so we can better understand your project:
    1. A floor plan or layout with the areas where you would like your lighting to be placed with full scale
    measurements.
    2. A brief write up of how you want the application configured (Overhead/uncabinet lighting,
    Dimmable, hardwired...etc.)
    3. Pictures or a sketch of the layout so we can determine how many connectors you will
    need.
